This intermediate-level course concludes the Oxford Latin Course, Parts I-III, introducing further Latin vocabulary and grammatical concepts through readings and exercises, while following the recommended text to allow easy reference and practice between sessions. This course is delivered as a series of interactive workshops where active participation is encouraged, suitable for B2 level students or those who have completed all levels of Latin up to 202 (approx. 145 hours of tuition). Students should study the upcoming material before each meeting and complete the set homework exercises. This is an essential part of learning and revising.

COURSE OUTLINE

  • Latin grammatical constructions found in the studied text
  • Revision of Latin Syntax
  • Reviewing the grammatical constructions and syntax, and discussing the texts in their cultural and historical perspective.
  • Analysis of some grammatical constructions as revision

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Recognise and translate the various use of subordinate conjunctions
  2. Translate short unedited passages of original Latin authors
  3. Discuss the literary and stylistic choices made by different authors
  4. Explain the relevance of the cultural and historical context on the style and content of the selected texts.

LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY

If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
