This course is an introduction to Turkish for any student wishing to learn the language for business, travel or everyday use with no prior knowledge of Turkish required. Students will develop basic skills to use in conversation, reading, listening and writing. This course aims to build general basic comprehension and communication skills in beginners Turkish.

COURSE OUTLINE

  • Introducing oneself, formal and informal greetings, numbers 0-1000
  • Vowel harmony, agglutination
  • The Turkish alphabet, sounds, pronunciation
  • Cases and basic sentence formation
  • Asking for goods in shops
  • Verbs, demonstratives, adjectives
  • Languages, countries, cities
  • Colours, days, months

PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Identify Turkish letters and reproduce them.
  2. Speak clearly and be understood in basic Turkish in particular to talk about themselves and exchange basic with others.
  3. Learn basic grammatical rules of the Turkish language.
