David Morgan had a career in industrial training in a range of industries and has taught at the WEA in Adelaide for the past four years. He developed his skills as a teacher during his officer training while completing national service in 1972. He became a qualified industrial trainer in 1974 (Certificate IV equivalent). He has a passionate interest in Spanish history and has travelled extensively in Spain visiting Roman and other ancient sites. He is also widely read on the subject of ancient Iberian/Spanish history. He has published an e-book travel guide to significant archaeological sites in Spain. He is an enthusiastic teacher who presents using numerous visual aids including his own photographs, handouts, and session notes to reinforce the topics discussed.Sally Morris

Dr Sally Morris has a BA with 1st class Honours and PhD from Macquarie University and a Diploma of Fine Arts from COFA (Uni. NSW). Sally specialises in the comparative study of ancient Egyptian, Near Eastern, Greek and Roman art, myth, religion and history as well as women’s studies, and has tutored and lectured on these topics at Macquarie for nearly 10 years and at WEA since 2011. She was an education officer at Macquarie’s Museum of Ancient Cultures, and a designer and project manager of educational displays and exhibitions at The Australian Museum, the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and TAFE. Sally’s approach to teaching is highly interactive and carefully crafted to ensure enjoyable, immersive learning experiences supported by high quality, original teaching materials, within a carefully explained social, geographical and chronological context. She enjoys encouraging and supporting students on their own travel adventures and on occasion includes “hands on” classroom experiences, such as artefact sessions, which enable students to interact and learn together.Adrian Muir

Adrian Muir is a history teacher with 30 years of classroom experience. His major interests are 20th century Germany, World War One, 20th century global politics and popular culture. When Adrian is not reading about history and politics you will usually find him in the outdoors. He is a passionate bushwalker and mountain biker. When time permits, Adrian also likes to travel. Masafumi Naito (Masa) started his Japanese class experience as a volunteer assistant in 2000, and has been teaching various courses of Japanese language and culture mainly to adults. Since he completed Graduate Diploma in Language Teaching (2005) and M.Ed. (2006), he started his experience in secondary education. He has also completed other courses in various areas: Bachelor in Information Network Engineering (Japan), Diploma in IT, Cert. IV in Graphic Arts and Certificates in TESOL; and those studies and experiences support his teaching career very much. He has many interests especially in Japanese contemporary culture such as comics, anime, songs and games; and also enjoys visiting cities in Japan.Shinobu Narimatsu

Shinobu has a Bachelor of Arts in Language and Area Studies in Japan; a Master's in Sociology and has completed PhD coursework in International Relations in South Korea. She also holds a Master's in Translation and a Master of Teaching in Australia. She has teaching experience in both Korean and Japanese languages in Community Language Courses in multiple countries and currently teaches at a University in Australia. Aidan Nathan gained a PhD in Classical Studies from the University of Sydney in 2020. He has a background in philosophy and specialises in ancient Greek philosophy. Aidan has taught in the Philosophy Department at University of Sydney and the Classics Department in the University of Auckland. He has also published academic papers on Plato.Helen Neale

Helen Neale completed her DPhil in Egyptology at Oxford University, researching the monuments and ideology of Egypt's 13th Dynasty. She is particularly interested in kingship during times of crisis, and how kings with dubious claims to the throne generate a sense of legitimacy. Helen works as a Sessional Academic at Macquarie University, and previously worked as a Graduate Tutor at Oxford, where she has taught on varied topics from the role of the natural environment in the development of the early Egyptian state, to the portrayal of foreigners, workers, and women through an elite lens in Egyptian tombs. She has excavated in Egypt, at the site of Dra Abu el-Naga as part of the Macquarie Theban Tombs project in 2015/16. She is also a regular tutor at the Macquarie Ancient Languages School, where she teaches Egyptian hieroglyphs from absolute beginners to advanced readers. Helen has a great love of teaching: ‘I find that seeing others’ passion for ancient history continually invigorates my own’. She is delighted to be joining the community at WEA.Michael Newton

Michael Newton gained his initial degree in Medieval and Ancient History from St Andrews University in Scotland. After pursuing a business career based in the Middle East, he joined the University of Sydney in 1984 working towards his post-graduate degree in archaeology.
He has lectured steadily since 1988 on all aspects of archaeology of the ancient Near East, Greece and Rome, with the Continuing Education Programs of the University of Sydney, University of Western Sydney, Macquarie University, the University of Newcastle, WEA Sydney and other adult education institutions.
He has excavated widely with international teams in Jordan, Syria, Greece and Italy, and has led many study tours for adults since 1989, covering the ancient cultures of Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Turkey, Greece, Morocco, Tunisia, Italy, Sicily, Malta and Spain.
Rodney Nillsen

Rodney Nillsen PhD DSc, has had a wide experience of teaching, research, and exposition in mathematics over forty-plus years. As an undergraduate he studied mathematics, science and literature. He has research, teaching-related and educational publications across several areas. He has received formal recognition for the quality of his teaching and his international research. In mathematics and teaching, he has an interest going beyond technical details, considering underlying ideas investigated through applications and comparison with other areas of thought and knowledge. I have been teaching German for over 10 years and hold a Master’s degree in Psychology. My passion for the German language extends beyond teaching - I also work in translation and copywriting. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with students of all ages, levels, and cultural backgrounds in Spain, Poland, and Australia. I am deeply committed to supporting students in achieving their goals, whether that means preparing for work, moving to Germany, communicating with a partner, or passing the Goethe-Zertifikat.
I believe it’s important to understand each student’s personal motivation for learning, so lessons feel purposeful and rewarding. My teaching style is interactive and engaging. I enjoy tailoring lessons to topics that interest my students, creating a space where both parties learn from each other. Above all, I focus on building a safe, supportive environment where students feel encouraged to speak German with confidence.
