This course helps you strengthen your communication skills for everyday situations while deepening your understanding of intermediate French grammar and vocabulary, making it ideal for learners looking to use French for travel, work, or personal enrichment in a supportive, interactive learning environment.

You will learn to understand and give instructions, write simple recipes, explain how everyday things work, talk about personal successes, and describe hygiene and cosmetic products with clarity. Grammar and vocabulary are taught in context including verbs ending in -cer, -ger, -yer, and -ayer, common prepositional verbs such as essayer de and réussir à, si + imparfait for expressing hypotheses, words related to cooking tools, ingredients, hygiene and cosmetic products, and action verbs for recipes, everyday objects and organisational vocabulary. Phonetics is integrated throughout, with practice on mastering the sounds [y], [ɥ], [u], [ʃ], [ʒ] and using natural rhythm and intonation, especially in hypothetical questions.

Communication

  • Understanding tasks and instructions
  • Writing a recipe

  • Telling a series of actions

Grammar

  • Conjugation of verbs ending in -cer, -ger, -yer, -ayer
  • Prepositional verbs (essayer de, éviter de, réussir à, penser à etc.)
  • Si + imparfait 
  • Indefinite pronouns (quelqu’un, personne, nulle part etc.)
  • Passé composé agreement with the verb avoir
  • Possessive pronouns (le mien, le tien, le sien etc.)
  • Avant de + infinitif / après + infinitif passé
  • Chronological markers (la même année, à l’âge de, etc.)

Phonetics

  • Sounds: [y], [ɥ], [u], [ʃ] and [ʒ]
  • Rhythm and intonation in questions with hypothesis (If + imperfect…?)

Vocabulary

  • Words for cooking: utensils, ingredients, and everyday tasks
  • Action verbs for cooking and recipe-related vocabulary
  • Daily objects and vocabulary related to how an association works
  • Words related to commercial success
  • Words related to hygiene and cosmetic products

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Communicate effectively in everyday situations, including following and giving instructions, writing a recipe, explaining how something works, describing achievements, discussing hygiene and cosmetic products, and narrating a clear sequence of actions.
  2. Use key grammatical structures to express hypotheses, sequence events, and refer to people and things precisely, including verbs ending in -cer, -ger, -yer, -ayer, common prepositional verbs (essayer de, éviter de, réussir à, penser à), si + imparfait, indefinite pronouns, possessive pronouns, correct passé composé agreement with avoir, and structures like avant de + infinitif and après + infinitif passé.
  3. Improve pronunciation and expand thematic vocabulary, focusing on the sounds [y], [ɥ], [u], [ʃ], [ʒ], rhythm and intonation in hypothetical questions, and vocabulary related to cooking, recipes, everyday objects, organisational functioning, commercial success, and hygiene/cosmetic products.
