...The magnificent estates of Vaucluse, Greycliffe and Strickland House tell the story of Sydney's colonial elite and their relationship with one of the world's great harbours. This guided walk explores their beautiful grounds, gardens, bushland and harbour foreshores while examining the history of the Wentworth family, changing land use and Sydney's colonial development. Participants will enjoy spectacular harbour views while gaining fresh insights into the people and places that shaped early Sydney.

COURSE OUTLINE
Meet at the Post Office at the Vaucluse village shops (which has cafes) cnr New South Head Rd & Petrarch Ave 15 minutes before the tour.
- Vaucluse House Estate
- Wentworth Mausoleum
- Vaucluse Beach
- Nielsen Park & Shark Beach
- Greycliffe House Estate
- 30 minute Hermitage Foreshore walk
- Milk Beach
- Strickland House Estate
Lots of walking over hilly land, lots of steps, uneven surfaces. Wear comfortable boots and bring hiking poles if you have them.
- Catch 324 bus from Edgecliff, Wynyard, or Town Hall stations to Vaucluse village shops.
- Catch 325 bus from Vaucluse Rd back to Edgecliff station.
- Lunch at The Nielsen halfway through and a chance to get a coffee from the Vaucluse House Tearooms.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, students should be bale to:
- Identify features of the natural environment
- Describe the changing land use of Vaucluse foreshore
- Describe the layout and history of three 19th century estates
- Retell stories from Wentworth (and other landowners) family history
