This is a super easy, fun project for any beginning crocheter. This beginners’ level course will introduce you to crochet methodology including various simple stitches and tips and there are more challenging exercise for those who want them! Each participant will have the opportunity to learn a new technique and then use this technique for a home project. Course notes are included and provide detailed instructions and patterns and these patterns are demonstrated in class. Designed for beginners, no experience is necessary – all that is required is a willingness to learn and have fun. It is recommended that you purchase a starter pack from the tutor for $21 which includes a hook and yarn (not included in course fee, cash is required and a receipt is provided). Depending on the project you decide to undertake you can add more yarn later on if you wish to do so.

  • Working out the right crochet hook to suit your style
  • How to properly hold the crochet hook and yarn, How to start with a chain
  • Introduction to the basic crochet stitches, Getting the tension right
  • How to change colours on a project, How to read and interpret a simple pattern
  • Learn to build upon your stitches using tips and tricks for strength and stability
  • Learn to decrease and increase, Design the perfect size to suit your purpose
  • Learn an easy project using basic beginner crochet skills, Learn how to design with stitches
  • Learn to read a pattern, Learn how to conceptualise a project using stitches and shapes
  • Learn to finish your project for sustainability and long term use.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  2. Have learned how to make crochet stitches
  3. Have learned how to control your tension so you can achieve better fabric
  4. Have learned to read crochet diagrams
