This course helps you strengthen your communication skills for everyday situations while deepening your understanding of Spanish grammar and vocabulary, making it ideal for learners wanting to learn the Spanish language for travel, work, or personal enrichment in a supportive, interactive learning environment.

You will learn how to to greet and introduce yourself in specific situations, make requests for things or favours, ask for and give permission, provide justifications, and talk about tastes, eating habits, and how dishes are prepared. Grammar and vocabulary are taught in context, including the gerund with estar, the conditional of poder and importar, direct object pronouns, forms with se, soler + infinitive, and connectors such as y, pero, and además. Phonetics is integrated throughout, with practice in intonation for requests and justifications and pronunciation of seísmo and sheísmo to develop clear and confident speech in Spanish.

Communication

  • Behave in specific situations: greetings, presentations
  • Ask for things, actions and favours
  • Ask for and give permission, make excuses and justify
  • Talk about tastes and eating habits, explain how a dish is prepared

Grammar

  • Gerund (regular and irregular); Estar + gerund
  • The conditional of poder and importer
  • Direct obhect personal pronouns
  • Forms with se; Some uses of ser and estar
  • y, pero, adremis; soler + infinitive

Phonetics

  • The intonation of requests and justifications
  • Seísmo and sheísmo

Vocabulary

  • Greetings and farewells
  • Verbs of politeness: poder, importer, ayudar
  • dar, dejar and prestart
  • paner, pasar and tener
  • Food, recipes, weights and measures

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Communicate confidently in everyday social situations, including greetings, introductions, making requests, asking for permission, giving excuses, and talking about tastes, eating habits, and recipes.
  2. Use key grammar and vocabulary accurately in context, including the gerund with estar, the conditional of poder and importar, direct object pronouns, forms with se, soler + infinitive, and connectors such as y, pero, and además.
