This course offers practical tips to write songs and push further into the songwriting craft. We will review basic music theory including chords and keys in order to provide new ideas for songwriting. You will learn to compose your own tunes using creative prompts and improvisation techniques. Students can write solo compositions or explore co-writing with other students in the class (optional). Feel free to bring your instrument.

COURSE OUTLINE
- Practical tips for songwriting
- Review basic theory including chords and keys
- Illustrate techniques of songwriting craft
- Apply songwriting techniques to your own song
- Creative prompts in each lesson to ensure students are writing lyrics and exploring musical ideas
- Songwriting exercises as solo composers and/or paired with other students if desired
- Opportunity to present any song ideas/completed songs

By the end of this course, students should be able to:
- More fully appreciate the songwriting craft and its artistry
- Gain music theory knowledge
- Gain confidence to write songs and/or finish songs
