Our environment is changing, and not for the better: global warming; ozone loss; air pollution; ecosystem damage; even our weather. Scientists need to study both the causes, and the effects, of such changes, using all available data. While direct, 'on the ground' data is clearly essential, it is satellite observation that provides us with consistent, unbiased global coverage. Satellites provide an extraordinary window into our changing planet. From tracking weather systems and monitoring climate change to mapping deforestation, bushfires and ocean health, satellite observations have transformed our understanding of Earth. This course introduces the science and technology behind Earth observation and explores how satellite data is used by scientists, governments and international organisations to address some of the world's most pressing environmental challenges. Suitable for anyone curious about science, technology and the future of our planet. No scientific background is required.
