Colombia boasts diverse natural wonders, from the lush Amazon rainforest and the Andean summits to the paradisiacal beaches of the Caribbean Coast. Bogotá and Medellín are two cities that offer a vibrant blend of history and modernity, while the colourful walled city of Cartagena features impressive colonial architecture, and a vibrant culture, with food being one of its highlights. The country is also famous for its indigenous cultures, coffee region, music genres like cumbia and vallenato, and festivals such as the Barranquilla Carnival and the Flowers Festival in Medellín.

  • Main facts, culture and lifestyle of Colombia
  • The most visited cities and regions of the country, including their highlights - Bogotá, Medellín, Cartagena and the Caribbean region, and the Coffee Region (also known as Coffee Triangle)
  • The indigenous peoples, such as the Kogis of Sierra Nevada and the Wayuu of La Guajira
  • Popular folk music genres - cumbia and vallenato, as well as two of the most picturesque festivals in the country

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Have a general knowledge of Colombia and understand what makes the country so special.
  2. Identify the most recommended sights, excursions, and cultural activities in some of the most interesting cities.
