How Australians relate to the environment has changed dramatically over time. This course traces that shift from the colonial British impulse to tame, control and exploit the land towards later movements for appreciation, preservation and environmental care.

You’ll consider the contrast with the much longer relationship Indigenous Australians developed with Country, and explore how organisations such as walking clubs and the Gould League reflected changing cultural attitudes. A thoughtful course on history, identity and the evolving idea of nature in Australia.
