Discover how the colour, composition and design principles of artists including Braque, Kandinsky, Mondrian and Klimt can inspire contemporary calligraphy. Participants will analyse the distinctive visual language of these artists before creating their own calligraphic works inspired by their techniques and aesthetics. The course culminates in the creation of a collaborative class calendar showcasing participants' work. Suitable for students who have already learned at least one calligraphic script and are ready to develop their creative practice further.

COURSE OUTLINE

  • Study various artists known for their design-related artworks
  • Explore their use of design, colour etc
  • Design a calligraphic piece in relation to one of the artists
  • Produce a calendar
  • Revision and fine-tuning suitable to the individual’s needs

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  • Recognise artists who create design-related artworks.
  • Understand how to combine these features with a calligraphic script.
  • Create an artwork influenced by one of these artists.
  • Develop a design ready for printing.
