This course is a continuation of the Latin Intermediate 3 course. Students will consolidate their skills in order to be able to understand the intricacies of the Latin language and its literature. Apart from the set text, student will tackle extracts selected from the works of the most well known Latin writers.

  • Knowledge of gerunds and gerundives
  • The use of gerundives of obligation
  • The predicative dative
  • Summary of the uses of ut
  • quin + subjunctive
  • The generic subjunctive
  • The use of relative ronouns + the subjunctive
  • The use of subjunctives in indirect speech
  • Translation of original Latin prose and poetry

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Read and understand a Latin text of the appropriate level.
  2. Demonstrate the skills, vocabulary and attitudes required for further study of Latin.

LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY

If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
