We’ll explore the poetry of such greats as Wright, Dawe, Harwood and Slessor along with lesser known poets. This is a fun, short course for people wanting to learn why poetry matters and those who already poetry lovers.

• Themes, tone and audience

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

1. Understand how poetic techniques are used effectively by the poet to affect an audience
2. Perceive the rich diversity of subject and style within Australia’s poetic canon
3. Unpack poetry through understanding how to analyse from a three reading approach
4. Understand the importance of context, tone and delivery in bringing a poem to life
