...The ageing population is a catastrophe. It has the potential to bring down the capitalist system, governments and social order. Why is it so dire, what can be done, why is it happening? There are now more people over 65 than under 5 across the western world and Asia. This means less workers, less taxpayers, more on social welfare, more on aged pensions, more sick people…. Within twenty years this disaster will hit. France estimates their taxes will have to rise nearly 20% to deal with it. Retirement benefits will be stripped away. Tax revenues will fall. Demand for goods and services and housing will fall. The very principles of capitalism (the buying and selling of goods) is under dire threat.
