Video calling is a phone call made using your mobile phone, tablet or computer that lets you see each other while talking.  The camera allows you to see each other’s facial expressions and body language – almost as if you were speaking in person. In this workshop, participants will be introduced to two widely used video calling apps: Zoom and Skype.

In this workshop you will learn how to:

  • use video calling in different ways
  • make video calls to one or more people
  • join and leave video calls
  • control audio and video during a video call
  • set up a video call to look and sound good
  • practice perfect video calling etiquette, and
  • be aware of, and protect, your privacy

There will be plenty of time for demonstrations and practice.

What to bring:

  • your fully charged iPad, tablet or smart phone, and charger
  • details of your log-in and password for either Apple Store or Google Play (depending on your device) - you will need this information to install new apps with;
  • your email address and phone number;
  • your password for your Zoom or Skype account (if you already have it installed)
  • notepad and pen

Courses will be held at WEA House, with no more than 10 participants per class.

The Tech Savvy Seniors program is for seniors aged 60 years and above, and Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander elders aged 50 years and above in NSW who:

  • Have little or no experience in using technologies
  • Require additional skills and confidence to use and adapt to new technologies

This program (held in partnership with the NSW Government and Telstra) delivers government-funded digital literacy training to seniors so they can develop the skills and confidence to access information and services online, or connect with family and friends.
