Frank Amati BA (Hons), MA (Hons) has taught in the field of Classics and Ancient History for almost forty years and has taught at the WEA for the last four years. Frank has a keen interest in ancient philosophy and the development of Latin literature up to the time of the Renaissance. His long experience in teaching has not prevented him from trying new methodologies that suit different students of different ages and backgrounds. One of his major aims has been to engender in students a love of ancient literature and its still relevant impact on modern thought. Feedback from students has always been an essential element of his teaching, which allows his interactions to develop both enthusiasm and pleasure.

Dr Robert Anderson has a PhD and an honours degree in philosophy from the University of New England. He has lectured and tutored in philosophy at the University of Notre Dame Australia and Macquarie University. His philosophical teaching and research interests lie in free will, the philosophy of religion, critical thinking and informal logic. He loves talking about the philosophical implications in movies like Inception and Minority Report.

Dennys is an atmospheric chemist (retired) and has worked at the CSIRO as a Principal Research Scientist, as well as a lecturer at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS). In 2017 he was appointed by the University of New South Wales (UNSW) as a sessional convenor for the Postgraduate Program summer course, Managing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions in which he continued as lecturer until 2020 . Dennys has a Graduate Dip.Ed. and a PhD in physical chemistry from Macquarie University. He is a member of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI) and Clean Air Society of Australia and New Zealand (CASANZ) as well as a volunteer for the Citizens' Climate Lobby, Australia. Dennys currently gives talks on climate change and air quality science as well as GHG mitigation policy in a diverse range of outreach settings.

Graeme Aplin, PhD, taught Geography at tertiary level for 40 years and has previously taught at the WEA and U3A Sydney Upper North. Graeme developed a keen interest in the environment and in heritage, especially World Heritage. He is enthusiastic about World Heritage and wishes to pass on this enthusiasm to his students. He will use many maps and photographs to introduce each of Australia’s World Heritage sites, placing them in their geographical and historical contexts. He hopes to interest students in visiting some of these sites and to stress the importance of caring for them.

Hawa has taught law at at various universities, including Macquarie University, UNSW and UWS for almost a decade. Her main area of interest is early Greek philosophy, history of economic thought and jurisprudence. She takes an interdisciplinary approach to research and teaching, drawing on legal, historical, political and philosophical ideas and themes. She has a BA (Philosophy)/LLB, Diploma in Ancient Languages, and is currently completing a Masters in International Law/International Relations at UNSW.

Eran is a writer, musician, and academic. His academic work is in linguistics and cognitive science. His creative work is in literature and music. He has published poetry and fiction and released several music albums. He is currently Visiting Fellow at the School of Humanities and Languages, UNSW.

Francesco Assenza gained his Diploma in Theory of Music from the NSW State Conservatorium of Music, followed by a Diploma in Public Administration, under the auspices of the University of NSW. He followed a long career in senior trade positions, as well as founding several iconic Sydney charity events (Australia Day Fun Run, City of Sydney Half Marathon, etc.).

During his career, he was made a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management. Since retirement, he has returned to his love of opera as a performance consultant and guest speaker at music clubs. He has held the positions of Treasurer of the Friends of Australian Opera, and Vice President of the Friends of the Australian Ballet in recent years.

Robert Austin (Ph.D, History & Latin American Studies, La Trobe) works on the post-colonial history of Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Political Economy of Latin American culture (both 1810-present); as well as the Pedagogy of Languages and Social Sciences, especially of Latin American & Hispanic Studies in the Global North. He has over one hundred publications in the field. From 1992 to 2006, he worked in Humanities and Social Science faculties in Latin American and Australian universities, and has since been an honorary fellow in History at the universities of Melbourne and Queensland. He has been a professor at two Chilean state universities; and visiting professor in Chile, Cuba, Mexico and Venezuela. Since 1998 he has been a participating editor of the journal Latin American Perspectives (USA); and an editorial board member with Cronos and Tensões Mundiais (Brazil), and Encuentro XXI (Chile). Dr Austin is currently an Honorary Associate, Department of Peace & Conflict Studies, University of Sydney.
